Biden Announces Plan to Forgive Student Debt, and These 12 Memes Show Why People Are Lying When They Say Everyone in America Pulls Themselves Up By Their Bootstraps

While reactions to President Biden’s plan have varied widely across political lines, one thing seems clear: The people who support the program have expertly shown that there is a connection between student loan forgiveness and social justice.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of buzz around President Joe Biden’s announcement that millions of federal student loan borrowers will soon see up to $20,000 of their debt wiped away.

Biden’s announcement comes after years of pressure from politicians and advocacy groups alike, who say a college education should be a ticket to a middle-class life for most Americans, especially those who come from low-income families, veterans and public servants. Instead, the cost of borrowing for college has now become a lifelong burden for too many people that deprives them of that opportunity.

Of course, it’s important to note that not everyone qualifies for this plan and not all Americans agree with the idea of student loan forgiveness.

In fact, earlier this month, 44 governors sent a letter to the president asking him to reconsider his plan. And a quick glance at Twitter reveals that some people — mostly Republicans — feel that forgiving people’s student loans is going to take the country backwards.

But you know what? While reactions to Biden’s plan have varied widely across political lines, one thing seems clear: The people who support Biden’s plan have made the right call by showing the connections between student loan forgiveness and racial justice, and they’ve also done a great job of owning the narrative about this controversial topic.

So I complied some of the best reaction memes to Biden’s announcement to show that, when you’re advocating for a social justice issue, there are a number of ways to tell the story. Some call out the hypocrisy of all the critics, while others just keep it positive and completely sidestep all the controversy.

Let’s check them out!

1.

Critics of Biden’s student loan forgiveness program warned that it will create a domino effect that could lead to other bad things happening. This reaction sarcastically points out those “bad things.”

2.

Biden is no saint, but I can totally see someone doing this. 🤣

3.

This reaction is like a straight jab to the face for all those critics who claim the United States is a Christian (only) nation.

4.

You wanna talk about what’s fair? Look who else just had their loans forgiven. 🤔

5.

If you thought Americans were petty, wait until you meet folks from Libya, this Twitter user said. And we have so much respect for Libya, right?

6.

It sounds like they had this meme already loaded up for the moment Republicans in Congress tried to say something cool in opposition to the program.

7.

Then the White House took it one step further by going after the easy target.

8.

When the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” argument just doesn’t work anymore.

9.

This reaction is like an uppercut for all those critics who claim the United States is a Christian (only) nation.

10.

I love this reaction because it shows that no one is upset besides the people who just want to be upset.

11.

And this reaction is simply a great testimonial. You don’t need to put any more sauce on this one.

12.

This reaction is just funny, and you know it. I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on.
